Shortly after 8 p.m. on Wednesday evening, Cal State LA Public Safety officers shot a coyote in University Hills near the Television, Film and Media (TVF) parking structure.

Erik Olvera Perez was on a break from his evening course when he witnessed the officer’s encounter with the coyote:

“I was standing on the TVF balcony and the cop had the light aiming toward the coyote who was on the hill. The cop was walking closer to the coyote on the hill. When he was halfway to the coyote, he shot one time. Then the coyote starting to whine and was twitching. Then three or four cops got close to the coyote and there were three more shots.”

Robert Lopez, Cal State LA spokesman, said a 5 year- old-boy was with his family when he was bitten by the coyote. The boy is seeking medical treatment.

The location and condition of the animal is still unknown. Animal control has set out traps in hopes to catch the wounded animal.
