Nearly 6,000 students graduated during Cal State LA’s 14 Commencement ceremonies this year in the span of 5 days. Students from the class of 2018 join the large pool of more than 245,000 Cal State LA alumni in the Los Angeles area.

“Today you stand on the peak of a great mountain, looking at the world and your future. You see other mountains around you; they represent other goals and challenges,” said President William Covino “Along with all that you will remember from your years at Cal State LA, I ask that you remember this advice: Don’t be daunted by the heights of your dreams and challenges…during your time here, you’ve learned how to reach the top.”

Over the week, the commencement ceremonies featured various student speakers and keynote guests including: Ana Ponce, Chief Executive Officer of Camino Nuevo Charter Academy; Cástulo de la Rocha, President and Chief Executive Officer of AltaMed Health Services Corporation; and Stewart Kwoh, President and Executive Director of Asian Americans Advancing Justice – Los Angeles. Kwoh received an honorary doctorate of Laws from Cal State LA during the second ceremony for the College of Natural and Social Sciences.
