ASI hosted its Nineteenth Annual Cal State LA Bowl Out at the Golden Mile Bowling Lanes Wednesday night on Feb. 6, 2019 for Spirit Week. Golden Eagle Radio provided listening entertainment to students as they filled the venue.

According to the Associated Students, Inc. (ASI) Spirit Commissioner Shaunteria Guerrier, the Bowl Out has become one of the most prominent Spirit Week events for students leading up to Cal State LA’s homecoming basketball game.

“The Bowl Out offers students from different ethnic backgrounds the opportunity to join together in one space to have fun, dance, bowl, and enjoy being apart of the Cal State LA family, which all are key aspects in generating school spirit. Let’s just say it gets lit,” said Guerrier.

She later called the Golden Mile Bowling Lanes “a home away from home for all Cal State LA students.”

For some students, like first-year student Bianca Phelps, this is their first time celebrating Spirit Week.

“I definitely think today there is a lot of spirit and they’re proud to be here,” said Phelps.

Triston Rendon, a first-year transfer student, did not know anyone before coming to the event. He joined a group of strangers and bowled with them.

“I made a lot of good friends here and these events are a cool way to meet them,” said Rendon. “It was cool to see school spirit find its way to the dorms.”

For first-year student Junnosuke Komiyama, this was his first time attending an off-campus event; he explained that he enjoyed the easiness of just showing up.

“Yeah, I just showed my ID. There were plenty of lanes open, so it’s pretty easy to get in,” he said.

Other students, like sophomore student Miles Miller, have attended the event multiple times.

“This year felt special because of all my friends that came; it really solidified my school spirit,” said Miller. “It makes me prouder to be a Golden Eagle,” said Miller.
