After having two of their previous games rained out, the Cal State LA women’s tennis team finally got back on the court, as they dominated the Dominican Penguins for a 6-1 NCAA Division II West Region win on Saturday.

The Golden Eagles swept the first 3 doubles.

No.1 doubles Amanda Schneider and Isabella Lopez won 6-0, No.2 doubles Luciana Di Laura and Berta Acero Garcia won 6-3, and Chelsea Ruiz and Mariko Sagara won 6-3.

“I could not be prouder of my team. I always know my girls are going to go out and battle to the best of their ability,” said Golden Eagles’ head coach Sandy Kriezel.

The Golden Eagles followed the three doubles wins with an additional three singles victories. No 1. singles Amanda Schneider highlighted her recent singles match.

Schneider had her opponent scrambling on the defense, hitting winners left and right.

“I’m happy to be back. My attitude was one of my best and I liked my game,” said Schneider.

At No.2 singles Di Laura won 6-0, 6-0; No.3 singles Acero-Garcia was forced to retired due to illness; No. 4 singles Lopez won 6-0, 6-0; No 5. Ruiz 6-1, 6-1 and No. 6 Sagara took it home 6-0, 6-1.

“I think this a good step for us. We want to play our best tennis coming into the second half of our season, going into the championships. I have no reason to believe that’s going to happen,” said Coach Kriezel.

The Golden Eagles will be back in action at the Cal State LA Tennis Complex March 14 against the Angelo State Rams. With Saturday’s win, the Golden Eagles’ overall record now stands at 4-4.
