Cal State LA students currently living in on-campus housing are required to move out by Monday, Mar. 23. The move comes under the guidance of Governor Gavin Newsom regarding the coronavirus pandemic.
Only students who rely on housing such as international students and Guardian Scholars will be exempt and may remain in the dorms. The news came in an email issued to all housing residents on Friday, March 20.
With only three days to leave, residents may leave their belongings behind but must schedule a move out date before May 16. Although, the email advised to completely move out if possible. Students must checkout by returning their keys and using an Express Checkout envelope they can find at the Housing Office.
Residents who move out will receive a prorated reimbursement on rent and meal plans. The email also mentioned the sooner residents move, the greater their refund will be. The email cites the example:
“… if you were in a double space in Phase I or II, the refund effective today,
March 20th, would be $2126.28.”
Students who completely move out by Mar. 23 will receive their refund effective Mar. 20.
Students who need to remain on campus can file a survey online where it will be reviewed to allow possible further stay. However, if you are approved, students may be asked to move to a different apartment to “consolidate the community for safety purposes.”
Housing and Residence Life will continue operating to support students who remain, but with modified hours. The dining common will also stay open with to-go service only, providing meals through spring break and until the end of the semester.
Current Dining Hours:
Breakfast: 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
Lunch: 11:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Dinner: 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
Brunch (Sat & Sun): 9:00 a.m. -2:00 p.m.
Dinner (Sunday): 5:00 p.m. -7:00 p.m.
Room selection for next semester is still scheduled and will accommodate by extending deadlines. Any updates on this will be received through students’ Cal State LA email.
The email also reminded students the Student Health Center, Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) and the Food Pantry will remain operational.
