To kick-off Latinx Heritage Month at Cal State LA, the Cross-Cultural Center collaborated with the University Library and other departments in hosting a reception on Sept. 12 in the library’s new reading lounge to spotlight the many upcoming events throughout September and October. Attendees enjoyed coffee and snacks while browsing the library’s monthly selection of works from Chicanx and Latinx authors on display.
“It is an important opportunity to celebrate and recognize the many contributions that our Chicanx Latinx students, staff, and faculty have,” said University Library Dean Carlos Rodriguez.
Speakers at the reception presented statistics on how Cal State LA is helping Latinx students through STEM programs. Professors also discussed their approaches when it comes to teaching and maintaining student engagement.
Cal State LA is a Hispanic Serving Institution, which means 25% or more of its student population consists of Latinx students. According to student demographics, approximately 75% of students identify as Hispanic.
