Plan to graduate this year? Here is what you need to know
Are you ready to graduate? Do you know about the graduation application?
Here are some tips and deadlines from the graduation office and commencement website to keep in mind this year.
- Graduation Applications
Undergraduate students who are graduating in Spring 2023 will need to turn in their graduation application by Oct. 15. As for graduate students, their applications are due on Nov. 15. Students only need to fill out and turn in their application once and will have to pay $30. Twenty dollars go toward the application and $10 for the diploma fee.
2. How to submit an application
After meeting with your advisor to help fill out half of your application, you will need to pay for it. Undergraduate and graduate students can either pay online using CashNet or in person at the Financial Services Office (Student Services Bldg. 2nd Fl., Room 2380). After a student gets a receipt emailed to them, they will need to send a copy or screenshot of that along with their application to the Graduation office email: [email protected].
3. Late fee
Students who turn in their applications after Oct. 15 will be charged a $25 late fee in addition to the original $30 application and diploma fee ($55 total). Late fees must be paid before the selected term ends.
4. Need help? Meet with your academic advisor.
Students are advised to go meet with their college or major academic advisor for any clarification on graduation status, additional graduation information, and questions regarding the application process.
5. Graduation fair and commencement
All graduation and commencement events will be updated on the university’s commencement website. All students that apply for graduation should keep a close lookout for important dates and times for commencement events.
Students who are awarded their degrees for fall 2022, and winter 2023 and students who apply for spring 2023 and summer 2023 will be eligible to participate in the spring 2023 commencement ceremonies.
6. Set your reminders and register to participate in the commencement
All graduates planning to participate in the in-person commencement ceremonies must register in advance in order to attend. In April 2023, graduates will be able to register to participate in commencement and reserve guest tickets using the commencement online ticketing platform. Graduates will receive an email to their Cal State LA email account in early April with the registration link.
7. Not graduating after all? Fill out this form
If you do not graduate during the term you declared on your graduation application, then you must file a “request to change graduation term” form and pay a $25 late filing fee online using CashNet or in person at the Financial Services Office. The graduation office advises students to make graduation advising appointment with their major department or college to determine the correct term in which they will complete all graduation requirements.
The graduation office said that students should use the registrar website to find additional graduation resources such as forms, instructions, deadlines, dates and contact information.
