Staples Center is scheduled to host a public memorial on Feb. 24 in honor of Los Angeles’s Lakers legend Kobe Bryant, his daughter Gianna and the seven other victims of the helicopter crash that took their lives, according to the Associated Press.
Since the tragedy, fans have gathered at L.A. Live and Staples Center to remember and pay their respects to Kobe Bryant, who along with his daughter Gianna and seven others tragically passed away in a helicopter crash that took place Sunday morning, Jan. 26.
The accumulation of items that fans in mourning left at the Staples Center and LA Live, but are now cleared, consisted of large poster boards decorated in heartfelt signatures to Bryant and the other victims of the crash, flowers, jerseys, basketballs and other memorabilia.
According to the Associated Press (AP), “Bryant’s widow, Vanessa, had requested items, which were to be cataloged and shipped to the family. Flowers will be composted and spread around plants near Staples Center.”
A legend in the game of basketball, Kobe Bryant transcended his beloved sport and became an inspiration to the city of Los Angeles as well as to millions of others.
From the generation who grew up watching him to those who will discover him in the future, what he leaves behind off the court as a father, husband, friend and leader will ultimately be the legacy of his “mamba mentality” for years to come.
