On Thursday, Aug. 22, the Associated Students Inc (ASI) held an interactive meet & greet booth at the main campus walkway. Titled “Spill Tea, Get Tea,” the booth handed out free boba tea and hosted games to win prizes and giveaways. Prizes included Cal State LA themed collectibles such as pens, stickers, and water bottles.
The booth was advertised as a way for students to directly interact with Cal State LA’s President Berenecea Johnson Eanes, but Eanes did not show up for the event due to a “busy schedule” — instead, a staff delegation was sent to represent her.
ASI President Yahir Flores said students deserve to have the opportunity to bring up important campus issues and “have a say in the future of Cal State LA.”
“We’re going to invite any student who wants to take part to come on by and join us so that they can see that we are putting in the work,” said Flores. “We’re putting in the effort.”
The booth also offered a chance for students to create and foster a sense of community among the Cal State LA campus. Graduate student Anthony Sales-Hernandez went to the booth for that exact reason.
“I’ve been trying to get more involved on campus, because as a graduate student, you don’t really get a lot of interaction, most of your classes are at night,” said Sales-Hernandez. “It is nice to see that there is actually a student body, not in comparison to when I come to campus at like 6 p.m. and there’s no one.”
