For every student, it can feel rewarding to finish their time in school and acquire their bachelor’s or master’s. However, there are requirements that students have to know about. 

With many preparing to finish their time at Cal State LA, there are questions about what to do next. 

Luckily the steps to get everything set up for graduation aren’t complicated. They just take some time to get things done.

Address the commencement office

When students have questions about any forms or dates regarding graduation, they can come to the commencement office for answers. 

The office is located at the Cal State commencement building and hours are Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Graduation application

It’s not just finishing your classes and getting on the list for graduation, students need to apply for graduation before the big day.

Students have to pay $20 for the application and $10 for the diploma fee, making it $30 in total.

A late fee of $25 is required when applying after the deadline. The current deadline for a late application is unavailable.

Undergraduates’ and graduates’ degrees have different dates and deadlines. For spring 2023 undergraduates had to apply on Oct. 15 and Nov. 15 for Graduates. For Fall 2023, undergraduates have until Mar. 1, and graduates have until June 15. If you are worried you missed the deadline, you can reach out to a counselor or the graduation office to find out more.

Register for commencement.

If students want to participate in the ceremony, they’ll need to register. 

In April 2023, graduates will be able to register to participate in commencement and reserve guest tickets using the commencement online ticketing platform. 

The website will show the steps that will help students gain a spot and have loved ones watch their graduation ceremony.

Cap and gowns

Cap and gowns will be available for purchase in the middle of the spring semester. Prices have yet to be posted. More information is coming soon.

Students can buy caps and gowns online or in person at the university bookstore. 

Location and dates

Cal State LA will have the 2023 Commencement May 22-26. 

As of right now, there is no official word on where the Spring 2023 graduation ceremony is going to be but last semester’s commencement was held in parking lot E, near the dorms.

Seek answers

Students must keep up to date with their academics to ensure they are on track to graduate. The GPA requirements is at least a 2.5 or higher to graduate.

One thing to remember is to schedule appointments with counselors and advisors to look at last-minute requirements. This will ensure that students are eligible to partake in graduation.
