The College of Arts and Letters is mourning as adjunct professor Christine Cortina passed one week after the graduation ceremonies. She was battling a fast moving disease over the course of the spring 2019 semester, which unfortunately led to her passing. Professor Cortina was a graphic design instructor who taught two classes in the spring and was expected to teach another course during the summer session.
According to the Fine Arts Department, she had been teaching at Cal State LA since 2011. After the news, Fine Arts Department Chair, Dr. Rebecca Davis, informed all of the graphic design students of Cortina’s passing. Multiple students have left heartfelt notes and cards for the family.
Dr. Davis hopes Professor Cortina will be remembered for her positive presence.
“She was very caring, her kindness to students and colleagues, she was always putting extra time to help people,” Davis said.
A private memorial service was held on June 9th at a private residence. Cortina leaves behind her husband, Guido Frenzel, and her two children. Visit https://www.ccortina.com/ to view Cortina’s work that she has produced through the course of her life.
