Golden Eagles made their way to Cal State LA Night at Dodger Stadium Thursday to see the Los Angeles Dodgers square-off against the Toronto Blue Jays.
Attendees of the game received a Kike Hernandez bobblehead and those who purchased tickets from the Cal State LA’s Alumni Association also received an exclusive white, black and yellow co-branded “Cal State LA Night” baseball cap.
Cal State LA visitors were treated to their own special reserved sections located at the Preferred Reserve section, the Preferred Loge section and the Coca Cola All-You-Can-Eat Right Field Pavilion.
ASI’s Vice President for Academic Governance, Jacquelyn Acosta, told the UT that the game, “was a cool and fun experience … the environment was lively and good vibes everywhere.”
Those good vibes could be attributed to the excitement over an outstanding game.
Dodgers’ pitcher, Kenta Maeda, was lights out, holding the Blue Jays to one run in the first five innings.
However, the Blue Jay third baseman, Vladimir Guerrero Jr., stepped up to the plate in the top of the sixth inning, homered to center field, and extended their lead over the “Boys in Blue” 2-0.
Dodger fans were left in suspense until the bottom of the ninth.
Dodger shortstop, Corey Seager, hit a double to right field allowing his teammates, Max Muncy and Cody Bellinger, to tie the game. Hernandez stepped up to the plate and the crowd rose to their feet and delivered what the Dodger faithful were looking for, a walk-off victory over the Blue Jays.
Jorge A. Salazar, an ASI representative, summed up the night by saying, “Overall a great event and awesome night to kick off the fall semester.”
