Dozens of people waited anxiously outside of Monterey Park’s newest bakery in town, Dot & Dough, for their grand opening. Located at 141 N Atlantic Boulevard , Dot & Dough has already been featured in LA Eater as one of Los Angeles’s 14 most delectable donut shops.

During the opening customers took pictures in the interactive photo booth, listened to music, received free pins and tote bags. The store offered a special for the first 100 customers to receive two malasadas, a store specialty, for free.

Malasadas are fried doughnuts that originated in Portugal, but Dot & Dough make it with a Hawaiian custard-filled twist. Dot & Dough offers a variety of flavored malasadas such as taro, vanilla, thai and chocolate. The shop also sells scones, little princes which is another type of fried doughnut and a variety of drinks.

Those who missed out on the malasadas were not forgotten about as the following 100 customers were treated to a buy one get one free offer.

Although the shop has had its soft opening earlier this year, the response for the grand opening was very positive.

Ellen Gao, an employee for Dot & Dough was pleased to see all the excitement for its grand opening.

“Everyone really likes it! a lot of people were interested in the name and the taste, and once they tried it they came back,” said Gao.

With the official grand opening in Monterey Park, another location of Dot & Dough is scheduled to open up later this summer on Melrose Boulevard.

Dot & Dough is open seven days a week from 8 a.m. – 10 p.m. or until sold out.
