It was a rough weekend in Seaside, CA for the Cal State LA men’s baseball team, after they lost all four California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) games to the Cal State Monterey Bay Otters.

The Golden Eagles dropped the series opener to the Otters, as they lost 11-6 at the Otters Sports Complex on Friday, Feb. 22.

Starting pitcher Saxon Andross pitched over five innings for the Golden Eagles and allowed six runs on nine hits; he also walked two and struck out four.

Trailing 7-1 entering the seventh, the Golden Eagles rallied for five runs, cutting the deficit to 7-6.

First basemen/catcher Spencer Sundahl capped off the seventh inning with a three-run blast, his second home run of the season.

But that was all the Golden Eagles could muster, as the Otters tacked on four more runs in the eighth to win game one of the series 11-6.

Saturday was a rough day on the field for the Golden Eagles, as they dropped both games of the doubleheader to the Otters.

Miguel Garcia was the starting pitcher in the first game of the doubleheader for the Golden Eagles. He did not last long, as he was chased out by the second inning. Garcia gave up six runs on five hits, walking four and striking out one.

Jackson Bond came in for relief, as he allowed eight runs on 12 hits in four innings pitched. Brent Jacques pitched the final three innings and did not give up a hit, but allowed one run while walking two and striking out two in the 15-2 loss.

Sundahl and catcher Zachary Grande each had an RBI for the Golden Eagles, while second basemen Nate Alam and right fielder Adam Gordon both went 2-for-4 in the first game.

The Golden Eagle offense was stymied in the seven-inning nightcap of the doubleheader, only managing to score two runs, both coming in the final inning in a 12-2 final.

Golden Eagles’ designated hitter Nic Sandoval went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored while shortstop Tyler Odekirk went 1-for-3 with an RBI double.

The Golden Eagles sent starting pitcher Nick Moisant to the mound for the second game, going three innings and giving up six runs on six hits. He also walked two and struck out two.

Johnny Virgen came in to pitch one inning, but struggled with his command as he allowed three walks. Matt Miao pitched the final three innings and allowed five runs on seven hits.

The Golden Eagles failed to salvage the series finale on Sunday, ultimately being swept by the Otters.

Starting pitcher Alec Daily got the nod for the Golden Eagles as he pitched over four innings and gave up two runs on two hits.

Micah Hee came in relief and gave up two runs on four hits in three innings and Julian Garcia recorded the final out in the eighth.

Looking to overcome a 4-0 deficit, the Golden Eagles put on their rally hats in the eighth inning. With bases loaded, Sundahl delivered a 2-run single to right field.

This would be it for the Golden Eagles as they fell short of a comeback, losing 4-2 and dropping to 1-6 in CCAA standings.

The Golden Eagles will resume CCAA action this week as they begin a four-game, split-site series against the Cal Poly Pomona Broncos. The first game will take place at Pomona on Thursday, Feb. 28. The series will then shift to Reeder Field for a doubleheader on Friday, Feb. 29 and the series finale will be at Pomona on Saturday, Mar. 2.

The Golden Eagles are seeking revenge after being eliminated in stunning fashion by the Broncos in last year’s CCAA Tournament.
