Over the course of the spring semester, students and faculty will be impacted with rerouted traffic and walkways, as Cal State LA repaves and remodels Circle Drive in four different segments. In addition to the road repairs on the southern end of campus, roofing work on Parking Structure B is also taking place. This has also impacted walkways and some access to the Pickleball Courts, as well as the Student Services Building.
The improvements include new lighting features, new sidewalks and safer roadway conditions, according to a post by Cal State LA Parking on Instagram in December of last year. The total cost of the Circle Drive project cost $3.7 million, and was paid for by a CSU-wide fund. These funds were specifically earmarked for deferred maintenance projects across the school system, according to Cal State LA spokesperson Erik Hollins.
The first phase began on December 15, 2025, and includes portions of Circle Drive near the Metrolink and transit center on the southern end of campus. Cal State LA intends for the project to be fully complete by May 15, the end of the spring semester. .
The closure for the entirety of the five-month project will stay confined to the southern end of campus. It will include hard closures from Cal State LA’s baseball stadium, Reeder Field, to the corner of Campus Road and Circle Drive.
The first phase was completed on Jan. 16 and included a full closure of the southern portion of Campus Road, where it connects with State University Drive and Ramona Boulevard. Those are now open, with the exception of Circle Drive.
For the final two phases from Feb. 21 to May 15, no personal vehicular traffic can enter or exit Circle Drive. However, buses and shuttles can exit Circle Drive when coming from Parking Lot 2, to turn left or right onto Campus Road and exit the area.
Before the major Circle Drive repavement that started last December, Cal State LA temporarily closed a portion of Circle Drive in June 2025 for emergency repairs and “stabilization” of deteriorating pavement and potholes on the roadway. At the time, the completion of repairs cost the school about $40,000.
The portion of Circle Drive that was fixed last year will remain untouched for the duration of this current project.
Due to the location of the ongoing work, buses from all the transit agencies that serve Cal State LA and rideshare have been relocated to near the corner of Circle Drive and Campus Road until the project is completed, from their original location at the Cal State LA Transit Center and Metrolink stop.
In addition to the Circle Drive paving and pedestrian improvements, Cal State LA is making upgrades to the roof area of Structure B, located near the Student Services Building and above Greenlee Plaza. The project is intended to be a preventative measure against rainwater leakage and future damage to the parking lot roof, according to Hollins.

project at Greenlee Plaza and the rooftop of Parking Structure B to prevent leaks on Feb. 9, 2026.
The roofing project was also funded by the same systemwide deferred maintenance program, also costing around $3.7 million.
Similar to the Circle Drive repavement, this project is being completed in separate segments to ease disruptions to the campus community.
The current closure for this construction, which started in early January, has blocked the walkways and seating areas on the east side of the Pickleball courts. These will reopen in mid-March, according to Hollins. Rain over winter break delayed the completion timeline of the first and largest segment of the project, Hollins said.
However, Hollins noted that the overall project for the roof of Parking Structure B will be completed on time in June, in its third and final phase, barring any future delays.
