After five months of holding his position as provost and vice president of academic affairs, José Luis Alvarado has resigned.

In an university-wide email, President William Covino announced the resignation followed by the news that executive vice president José Gomez will serve as provost effective immediately.

Gomez is Cal State LA’s third provost within two years. Lynn Mahoney served as provost until Spring 2019 before leaving to a new position as president of San Francisco State.

Gomez temporarily replaced Mahoney until Alvarado was chosen in March 2020.

In the email, Covino thanked Alvarado for his administrative service and wished him well as he pursued other opportunities.
